Chocolate covered football themed strawberries are super easy to make and require only a few ingredients. They taste great and are sure to be a hit at your next sports football themed party. Enjoy!!
Here’s the list of ingredients you need:
Strawberries
(Make Sure you find some good looking strawberries at your grocery store. Here in Oklahoma City, I usually find the best looking ones at our local Sam’s Club. I can get a 2 pound package for under $5.00 there. Be sure to check Sam’s Club if you have one in your area.)
Chocolate Morsels or Wilton Brown Candy Melts
Wilton White Candy Melts
Wax Paper
Candy Piping Bag
Here’s what you Do:
First, wash and dry your strawberries.
Then lay a strip of wax paper on top of a cookie sheet (Laying it on top of a cookie sheet makes it easier to transport the chocolate covered strawberries to the refrigerator). After you dry each strawberry, place them on the wax paper.
Now, the next step is to melt your chocolate. You can use any method you like to melt your chocolate. The quickest method is to melt the chocolate in the microwave, but you have to be very careful because it is extremely easy to burn the chocolate – I just did. My preferred method of melting chocolate is to use a double boiler, but guess what?! I cannot locate mine. After searching for over an hour, I gave up and had to improvise. So, I placed my chocolate morsels into a small stainless steel bowl, then put that bowl into a pan of boiling water.
To help distribute the heat, stir the morsels with a spatula every 5 minutes or so.
When the chocolate is completely melted, with no visible lumps, it will should look something like this:
Okay, next is the fun part.
It does take a little practice to get the hang of it. I have a few ugly strawberries from goofing up in the beginning. Dip your strawberry into the gooey smooth chocolate and give it a swirl – round and round, covering all sides of the lucky little guy.
Once the strawberries are covered in chocolate, place them onto the wax paper. As your chocolate cools, it will start to thicken. If it gets too thick while you are trying to cover your strawberries, just warm it back up.
This one was my favorite little beauty:
Place the now, chocolate covered strawberries, in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes so the chocolate will harden. While the chocolate covered strawberries are cooling, place your white Wilton candy melts in your candy bag, and melt in the microwave. I like to melt mine in 15 second increments – pulling out the bag each time and massaging the chocolates around to better distribute the heat.
Once your melting is done, go ahead and cut off a small tip off the end of the bag in a diagonal direction as you see in the above photo.
Now it’s time to finish your football. Start with piping a long vertical line down the center of your chocolate strawberry like this:
Then pipe a small horizontal line across the top of your vertical line like this:
Now add the rest of your small horizontal lines and you are done!
Finish decorating the rest of your strawberries and put them back in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
Then put them on a cute serving platter and watch your guests devour them!

Where did you get the clear piping bag? I’m having trouble finding clear bags that do not already have a whole cut in them. Thanks.
Hi Rachel!
You are right. If you look in the cake decorating section of most hobby stores, many times, you will find the bags already cut since cake decorating requires the use of tips/couplers. BUT….candy decortaing doesn’t. So, look in the candy decorating section of your local craft store. These are Candy Decorating bags. I get mine at either Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. And, if you don’t have either one of those in your area, you can find them on Amazon with free shipping when you spend $25. Thanks so much for stopping by!!
